Magdalena Łaptaś

Po ukończeniu studiów na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim odbyła podróże studyjne do Rawenny i Londynu. Wróciła w 1993 r. i podjęła pracę w Muzeum Narodowym w Warszawie w Galerii Faras. Pracowała tam do 2010 r. W tym czasie była współorganizatorką kilku wystaw, m.in.: Banganarti (2002), Proskynetaria (2003) oraz In the Sun and Desert (2006).
Praca w Galerii Faras MNW skierowała uwagę Magdaleny Łaptaś na średniowieczne chrześcijańskie malarstwo nubijskie. Temu tematowi poświęciła dalszą pracę naukową, która szybko znalazła uznanie. Badaczka bowiem łączyła w swojej pracy warsztat historyka sztuki i archeologa. Analiza dzieł faraskich pozwoliła jej na dokonanie reinterpretacji niektórych z nich.
Od 2001 r. brała udział w pracach polskich archeologów w Banganarti w Sudanie, gdzie odkryto malowidła ścienne. Później uczestniczyła również w misjach konserwatorskich w Kaftun i Ma’ad w Libanie oraz w Aleksandrii w Egipcie. Kierowała też projektem badania mumii koptyjskich w Muzeum Egipskim w Kairze.
Szczególne miejsce w pracach badawczych zajmowała ikonografia aniołów w malarstwie nubijskim. Tej tematyce była poświęcona jej rozprawa doktorska: Archaniołowie w malarstwie nubijskim, którą rozpoczęła pod kierunkiem prof. Elżbiety Jastrzębowskiej, a sfinalizowała u prof. Włodzimierza Godlewskiego w 2005 r. na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim.
Od 1999 r. na UKSW prowadziła wykłady i ćwiczenia z historii sztuki starożytnej, sztuki wczesnochrześcijańskiej oraz bizantyńskiej i postbizantyńskiej. Przyczyniła się do wznowienia serii „Nubia Christiana”. Miała również w planach utworzenie na UKSW ośrodka naukowo-badawczego nad sztuką koptyjską i nubijską.
Magdalena Łaptaś angażowała się w pracę dydaktyczną, wspierała działalność Koła Naukowego Studentów i Absolwentów Historii Sztuki UKSW. A w budynku Wydziału Nauk Historycznych utworzyła galerię polskiego designu, której zbiory planowała systematycznie powiększać.
Należała do kilku międzynarodowych stowarzyszeń naukowych: Coptic Society, Nubian Society, Verein zur Förderung der Christlichen Archäologie Österreichs, Sudan Research Archaeological Society, International Center of Medieval Art oraz Polskiego Instytutu Studiów nad Sztuką Świata i Stowarzyszenia Historyków Sztuki.
